Provides new or previously commissioned Notary Publics with the education and skills to pass the state-proctored examination and be successful in a new career. The expanding financial, real estate, business, and law professions have a growing need for notaries. California State Proctors will give the final examination at the end of the class. Certified Nursing Assistant: 263801
Prepare for employment in extended care facilities, and home health care agencies and registries. Learn the fundamental of Patient Care: Working knowledge of ethics, patient rights, infection control, weights and measures, basic patient care and procedures, vital signs, nutrition, long-term care, rehabilitation nursing and understanding and management of death and dying. Communication skills acquired will include objectivity in the workplace, interpersonal conflict resolution, observation, reporting and charting skills demonstration of clear oral and written communication. Emergency skills taught include: Prevention and management of catastrophes, emergencies and unusual occurrence, safety procedures and body mechanics, emergency codes, symptoms of patient distress, and immediate and temporary interventions. Students will have the knowledge, skills and terminology to prepare for taking the state examination at course completion. Entry Requirements: OICW Orientation and WONDERLIC assessment. Candidates must 1) have basic math skills and show evidence of good health, 2) be free from conviction by any court (other than minor traffic convictions) or have clearance from the California Department of Health Services, 3) be able to exert 20 - 50 lbs. of force occasionally, 10 - 25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Prepare for employment as a Prep Cook, Sandwich and Salad Maker, Apprentice Baker, Pastry Chef, Cafeteria Worker, Apprentice Cook in restaurants, hotels, and institutional cafeterias, Line Cook, Sous Chef and other related occupations. Students will learn basic stocks, soups, sauces and dressings; hot and cold restaurant stations in an upscale cafe; basic doughs for pizza and house baked breads. In-house desserts and pastries; proper food handling, storage techniques for safety and sanitation in a restaurant setting. Management Fundamentals will include principles of plate cost calculation, basic understanding of operating costs (food costs, labor costs, overhead costs); an understanding of cash accountability systems; and knowledge of service staff responsibilities. Optional Training Available: Fundamentals of table service, cashiering and hosting. Inventory and cost control systems. Expediting a restaurant line and Sous Chef responsibilities. Medical Billing and Coding: 263901
Prepare for career opportunities, such as Insurance Biller, Medical File Clerk, Medical Records Technician, Patient Account Representative, Medical Secretary, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Office Management. Students will obtain working knowledge of medical billing and compensation as well as an introduction to the national diagnostic and procedural coding systems including ICD and CPT coding. Duties and requirements of medical billing and insurance claim specialists and solid medical vocabulary. Learn how to finalize medical and itemized statements and process HCFA 1500 Insurance claim forms. Entry requirements: OICW Orientation and WONDERLIC assessment. High School Diploma or GED. Notary Loan Document Signing Specialist: 175501
California’s real estate industry needs notaries who want to become Loan Document Signing Specialist. Upon completion of class, you will be eligible to take the open book certification exam and receive a Certificate of Certification for the course. Phlebotomy Training (coming in 2005)
A 16-hour course, offered in collaboration with Boston Reed. Provides instruction in the art of drawing blood for current or future Medical Assistants, EMT’s, Vocational and Registered Nurses, Medical Doctors using or planning to use phlebotomy skills in their work.Not intended for those who plan to perform phlebotomy in a licensed clinical laboratory or public health agency. Project Build: Introduction to Construction: 268601
Prepare for employment in the construction industry. Skills acquired will include Introduction to Construction training / Environmental training HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Removal, Asbestos Removal, Lead Removal), Underground Storage Tank Removal, Confined Space Operations, Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures, Instrumental Enrichment. Pre-Apprentice Union Participation includes: Carpentry, Drywall, Metal Studs, Modular Installation, Iron worker, Electrician. Entry requirements: must have ability to communicate clearly in oral English, basic math skills, and a desire to work in the trades. May be required to lift 70 lbs. and climb ladders, and should not be sensitive or allergic to fumes and chemical solutions.
